This huge Box Elder spherical hollowform is one of the largest hollow vessels I have ever turned. It has beautiful pinkish-red streaks running throughout the piece. Box Elder (acer negundo) occasionally has these red streaks in it, but the scientific community is still debating what causes them. It was named "Caldera" because it reminds me of the Mauna Loa volcanic caldera and the lava flows on the island of Hawaii. This award winning hollowform has been finished with a hand-rubbed oil finish and polished to a high gloss. 16 3/4" high x 16 1/4" diameter.
